Hold cane tip in right hand in front of you, resting cane above the handle on right shoulder, left hand is at left temple, left hip, or held out to side

  • 3/4 Shimmy
  • Half 3/4 Shimmy with Hip Pop Back
  • Walk with Hip Lift and Swivel
  • Step-Touch (front) with Twist Hip


Hold cane tip in both hands in front of you, resting cane above the handle on one shoulder

  • Twist Jumps Flat-ToesToes
  • Jump-Hop from side to side with little kicks: on 1, hop on to right foot while crossing left knee over right and touching left toes to floor. On 2, hop on right foot again while kicking left toes to the left. On 3, hop onto left foot while crossing right knee over left and tapping right toes on floor. On 4, hop on left foot again while kicking right toes to the right.


Rest cane handle on ground with palm holding cane tip straight up

  • Walk around cane with 3/4 Shimmy
  • Big Egyptian Hip Circle
  • Dina Half Hip Circle
  • Hip Figure 8s
  • Stand behind cane and do Jump-Hop from side to side with little kicks. Finish by giving cane handle a little kick to start a backwards twirl


Hold cane handle in left hand, left wrist touching or near top of head, right hand holding cane tip extended to right side

  • Shoulder Shimmy
  • Hip Pulls
  • Body Rolls Down stepping forward
  • Undulations stepping side
  • Turkish Twist (LDHD) with turn


Twirl cane at your side

  • Bounce Step with Posture Tilts (two counts per foot): hop forward in Turkish Posture onto right foot on 1, bounce on right foot while lifting pointed left foot near right calf on 2, hop back in Exaggerated Egyptian Posture onto left foot on 3, bounce on left foot while lifting right knee on 4
  • Traveling 3/4 Shimmy


Twirl cane above head (helicopter)

  • Bounce Step with Posture Tilts


Twirl cane in front of you (propeller)

  • Scoop Figure 8s with little kicks to the side
  • Step-Hip with hip accent to the side


Holding cane in both hands in front of chest or waist, push cane forward with elbows while pulling wrists back, then pull cane back while dropping wrists down

  • Hip Pushes accent back
  • Hip Pushes switching sides, one side holding cane high, other low
  • Undulations stepping side


Holding cane in both hands in front of ribs, drop wrists to the beat

  • Hip Drops with LiftDrop-HipDrop - follow with a Body Roll Up while making a circular motion with the cane down-in-up-out
  • Pelvic Tilts walking forward or stepping side


Hold cane above head with both hands tilting side to side

  • Jump-Hop from side to side with little kicks
  • Step-Swing Hip


Hold Cane in the tips of fingers, parallel to floor out in front of you

  • Traveling F-to-B Hip Figure 8s
  • Step BallChange with F-to-B Hip Figure 8s


Laila’s Combo: Start facing stage left, twirling cane forwards in the right hand. Walk forward to stage left and then tap cane on floor in front of you. Reverse direction of cane twirl and step backwards towards stage right. Finish by tapping cane on floor behind you with a little twist to look at audience. Repeat.


Whirling Clock Combo:
You are going to turn clockwise while moving around the stage in a counterclockwise circle. Hold cane tip in right hand. On 1, step forward right and lean forward to tap cane on floor in front of you (towards the center of your circle). On 2, hop on right foot while circling cane handle around your left shoulder. On 3, step left and circle cane handle behind your back. On 4, hop left and circle cane around your right shoulder.
