| Indra Lazul, a
belly dance duo formed in Fall 2006 is comprised of Leyla Fahada and Zaira al
Zahara. With over 9 years (and counting)
combined belly dance experience, they create original choreographies and also
improvise, most notably in their performances with the Baltimore-based
world-fusion band Telesma.
Indra Lazul has danced at a variety of venues including Rakkasah East and
West, Spring Caravan, Mia Naja's Moments of Magic Hafla, Bellydancers of Color
Association (BOCA) Fest, The 5 Seasons Haflas, Arabian Nights at The Decoy
Lounge and at the Casablanca, American Cancer Society Relay For Life 2007, The
DC Roller Girls Halftime Show, Maryland Public Televison (MPT), Lotus Niraja's
Shimmilicious 2, and 1001 Nights at the Latin Palace in Baltimore.
They have danced
as a part of the Daughters of Rhea Troupe for Bellypalooza 2007
and other events. Zaira and Leyla also do solo work at DC/Baltimore-area
restaurants.
Indra Lazul’s dance is drawn from Egyptian, American Cabaret,
Tribal Fusion, Turkish, Tunisian and various Folkloric styles. They
credit attending workshops, admiring dance influences, and
intensive study with Malika, Yasmin, and Piper for their dynamic style and strong technique. They
also incorporate veil, wings, sword, cane, zils, floorwork, percussive
drum solos and taqsim movements into their work.
