(Three counts of 4) Hit hip with tambourine
Stand
on your left foot, facing 45° to stage left in Neutral Dance Posture, left arm
up, looking at the audience, tambourine in right hand. Hit right hip with tambourine on 1 &, hold, 3, hold. These are the DUMs
of belady, which goes, “DUM DUM tecatec DUM tecatec”, and is counted 1 &
2e& 3 &a4.
(one count of 4) Zaghareet
Hit
tambourine to left hand in front of left shoulder on 4, then cover mouth with
left hand, shake tambourine, and zaghareet.
Get ready to hit tambourine over head and step forward on 1.
(Four counts of 4) Forward-Step-Back-Step
Step
forward with the right foot and swing the right hip out on 1. Step in place with the left foot and swing
the left hip out on 2. Step back with
the right foot and swing the right hip out on 3. Step in place with the left foot and swing
the left hip out on 4. Repeat the
footwork four times, each time with a different hand pattern.
- Hit the tambourine
with your left hand above your head on 1, then hit the tambourine on your
right hip on 3.
- Twist your left
shoulder back as you swing your right hip forward and hit the tambourine
with your left hand in front of your left hip on 1. Swivel back so your body faces the
audience again and hit the tambourine on your right hip as you swing it
out on 3.
- Twist your left
shoulder forward and hit it with the tambourine as you step forward on
your right foot on 1, then hit the tambourine on your right hip on 3.
- Swivel to lunge
forward and shake the tambourine towards the audience on 1, then swivel to
face forward again and hit the tambourine on your right hip on 3.
(Four counts of 4) Forward-Step-Back-Step with quarter turns
Bring
hands (elbows lifted) about a foot in front of your chest as you swivel to face
stage left and hit the tambourine with your left hand twice on 1 &, then hit the tambourine on
your right hip on 3. On the second 3 (your back is to the audience
now), turn and look over your shoulder as you hit your hip. Keep turning in a counterclockwise direction
to end facing the audience. Don’t forget
to move your hips!
(Four counts of 4) Belady Step (a.k.a. Back-Over-Across-Hip)
Your
weight should be on your left foot from the last Step Turn, so on 1 step your
right foot behind your left as you shake the tambourine, bringing it up to your
right. On 2, step your left foot towards
stage left as you shake the tambourine over your head. Step your right foot in front of your left
foot as you pass the tambourine to your left hand on 3. On 4, hit your left hip with the tambourine
as you do a Swing Hip to the left.
Reverse. Repeat.
(Four counts of 4) Wedding Step
Do
little hops on the beat as you step forward on your right foot and lean towards
the audience. Do a Shoulder Shimmy as
you shake the tambourine for 1&, 2.
Step back on your left foot (don’t forget the little hops) and do a right
Hip Drop, Hip Lift, Hip Drop on 3 & 4, hitting your right hip with the
tambourine with the Hip Lift.
(Four counts of 4) Hip Pulls
Raise
left hand high, and do Hip Pulls to the right for 3 beats while hitting your right
hip with the tambourine on the beat. On
4, shift your weight to the right foot and bring the tambourine in front of
your right shoulder. Hip Pulls to the
left for 3 beats while hitting the tambourine on the heel of the left hand on
the beat. On 4, shift your weight to the
left foot. Repeat.
(Four counts of 4) Pivot Turn with Hip Pulls
Your
weight is on the left foot already.
Bring the tambourine in front of the left hip and pivot with your weight
on the left foot in a counterclockwise circle.
On 4, step onto the right foot, switch hands with the tambourine, and
get ready to pivot in the other direction.
Repeat. Finish with a last Hip
Pull with the left hip, keeping the tambourine in the left hand.
(Two counts of 4) Shoulder Shimmy
Walk
with a Shoulder Shimmy, stepping left, right, left on 1, 2, 3. On 4, point your right toes to stage right
and hit the tambourine with the right hand.
Walk into a circle and then Gypsy Kick with the right leg to face out of
the circle on 4.
(one count of 4) Zaghareet
Cover
your mouth with your right hand and zaghareet.
Be ready to move on 1!
Repeat
choreography from beginning, facing out of the circle.
Replace
Hip Pulls with Grapevine for 16 counts, then
into
Pivot Turns. Walk out of circle into a
line with
Step-Hip
for 16 counts, Zaghareet, and repeat
choreography
again from the beginning.
